Frankincense, or resin from the Olibanum tree, has been considered a valuable and precious herbal medicine since the beginning of written history. While it is often used as an incense, in Oman where it is grown, Royal Green Hojari Frankincense of this pristine quality is considered “edible/medical grade” specifically for ingesting internally. It is either chewed like a gum, brewed, or cold-infused as a tea. Appropriately regimented internal use can offer cleansing, purifying and tonifying effects. In Oman, it’s widely used as a refreshing cold-brewed tea to assist with daily detoxification. And recent scientific explorations have revealed Frankincense as one of the most potent herbal anti-inflammatories available. Frankincense Resin also supports healthy teeth, gums, balanced microbiomes, and it even offers analgesic effects.

 

The water-soluble parts of this unique tree resin are fully edible and medicinal. When you brew a tea with it (hot or cold), or chew it in your mouth, the water-soluble part of the resin slowly dissolves releasing a refreshing citrusy pine flavor. As it is chewed, the texture changes, and an insoluble gum will be left over (the original chewing gum ~ do not swallow the gum part). The leftover insoluble tree gum is biodegradable and can be discarded like any compostable food waste.

 

Of the all the Frankincense, Boswellia sacra is regarded as the most medicinal species, particularly the Royal Hojari variety from the Dhofar region of Oman. The Sultan's Royal Blue Hojari Frankincense is the highest quality of Frankincense produced in the world ~ it’s the freshest, handpicked pearls of aqua-blue hued Frankincense resin, and it is reserved for the Sultanate, not typically exported. Royal Green Hojari Frankincense is the second highest quality ~ it has a turquoise to peridot green color, and is the highest grade of Frankincense that the Sultanate allows to leave Oman. ༄ Cold Water Infusion Method (most popular):

Simply add one or two nickel-sized pieces of Royal Green Hojari Resin to a 16oz glass of water and leave it over night. Drink half of the glass in the morning on an empty stomach and the remaining half a few hours later.

Do not use your finest drinkware for cold-brewing Frankincense tea. We recommend dedicating a glass mason jar as a cold-brewing vessel because once the water-soluble parts of the Resin go into solution, there will be a small amount of non-soluble tree Resin gum remaining in the jar. This can leave a sticky residue in the bottom of the jar that can only be removed with a solvent such as alcohol or oil. However, you can continually cold-brew Frankincense Resin in the same vessel many times over, as the Resin residue is naturally anti-microbial. 

 

༄ Chewing Gum:

Chew a small Frankincense ‘pearl’ in your mouth. Do not swallow the leftover gum, simply discard it like food waste. 

 

༄ Brewed as Hot Tea:

This fine Resin can also be brewed as a hot tea. Simply add a small chunk in a mug of hot water. Add hot water & stir until the chunk has been fully dissolved.

 

༄ Burned as Incense:

The fragrance is similar to lime/eucalyptus and is refreshing and relaxing all at once. Frankincense can be burned on hot coal, or warmed on an oil warmer.  Burning just 1g can fill a room with an amazing scent that lasts for hours.
